There’s something awkward here:

Rustbelt Reader often writes the economy live inside a fantasy for 40 years: that the world is one integrated market, that politics is noise, and that if you had the money, you could buy the commodity.

Is it live or lives or lived or I’m I a stubborn old man who can’t comprehend this particular sentence? Please explain.

You’re not a stubborn old man at all — the sentence is a little awkward, and that’s on me/us.

Grammatically it should be “has lived” (or “lived” if I’m talking strictly in the past). A cleaner version is:

“For about 40 years, we’ve acted like the world is one integrated market—that politics is background noise—and that if you have the money, you can always buy what you need.”

And what it means is simple: since the post Cold War era, it felt like markets were smooth and global; but now global politics, sanctions, permits, and chokepoints matter again.

Another great story.

I will have to read it at least 2 more times to organize the formula.

Thanks again for your help.
